Reading the Economic Calendar Without Getting Whipsawed

Economic calendar events — like Non-Farm Payrolls, CPI or a central bank rate decision — are ranked by expected impact because volatility genuinely differs. A high-impact release can move a major pair 50-100 pips in the seconds after release; a low-impact one might barely register.

The 'surprise' relative to forecast usually matters more than the raw number. A strong jobs report that still misses expectations can trigger a very different reaction than the headline figure alone would suggest.

Many traders deliberately widen stops, reduce size, or simply stay flat around major releases — not because a view is wrong, but because the volatility around the print itself can trigger a stop before the 'real' move even starts.

Our Market Analysis page includes an economic calendar section — connect a live calendar feed (see the README) to track upcoming releases for the pairs you follow.
