Risk Management 101
Ask experienced traders what changed between losing money and becoming consistent, and the answer is rarely a better indicator — it's almost always risk management. Controlling how much a single trade can cost you is what keeps a string of losses from ending an account.
A common starting discipline: risk no more than 1–2% of account equity per trade, sized so your stop-loss distance times your position size equals that risk amount — not the other way around. Our Position Size and Risk calculators do this math directly.
Risk/reward ratio matters alongside win rate. A trader who's right only 40% of the time can still be profitable if winning trades are, on average, meaningfully larger than losing ones — which is why a favorable risk/reward ratio is often prioritized over a high win rate.
None of this removes the underlying risk of trading Forex and CFDs — it manages it. Losses remain possible on any individual trade, and past results never guarantee future ones.
